Edgecliff Nature Reserve is located on the sloping edge adjoining the playing fields of Edgecliff High School in Kinver, Staffordshire. The site is a young regenerating woodland, including rural habitat and grassland areas. It has recently suffered from an invasion of Japanese Balsam, which has spread through out the lower area of the Nature reserve.

Students from year 11 studying for a BTEC level 2 Certificate in Countryside and Environment are carrying out conservation work for this area of the school grounds. The Midland Way Trust (who are also carrying out conservation work with the National Trust at Kinver Edge) is working with our students as part of their project on Conservation and Improvement of British Habitats. As part of this work they will be:

  • ·        Path making
  • ·        Clearing overgrowth in wet areas
  • ·        Tree planting
  • ·        Coppicing
  • ·        Tree felling
  • ·        Crown lifting

In addition to the conservation work being carried out the support camp enables pupils to develop team work, man management and leadership skills.
