Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you as a parent/carer who is interested in sending your child to Edgecliff High School.  As leader of transitions, I am confident that the children who join us in Year 7 will find the years they spend with us successful and happy.  Education is a partnership between pupils, parents and teachers, working together to maximise success.

At Edgecliff, we are clear about our priorities.  First of all, children need to feel safe and happy, secondly they need to be fully engaged and immersed into a wide range of learning activities and opportunities both in and out of the classroom.  Thirdly, all children, regardless of their ability, should be given the  encouragement necessary to achieve their full potential.

Choosing the right secondary school for your child is one of the most difficult and important decisions which a family has to make.  To assist you with this process, Edgecliff High School will be holding its annual Open Evening on Tuesday 4th October from 6 until 8.30 pm.

The school will showcase the broad range of subjects which are available to students throughout the Key Stages.  A range of interactive lessons will be available for prospective students and their parents to take part in, along with informative displays, information on courses and sample work.  Departmental staff will be on hand to assist with any questions you might have about the school or specific subject areas.  Our students will be offering guided tours and their perspective on school life at Edgecliff.  There will also be an opportunity for you to hear an address by the Headteacher Mr Chris Rogers at 6:15pm, this will be repeated at 7:15pm.

Parental visits can also be booked for Thursday 6th October.  These visits are an opportunity for parents to have a guided tour to witness the school in action.

In addition to the above evening, there will also be three taster days, whereby prospective students are able to complete one full school day at Edgecliff, experiencing a variety of subject lessons and personal tutor time.  The dates for taster days are Thursday 13th, Friday 14th and Monday 17th October 2011.

We warmly invite you and your child to experience the kind of ethos, spirit and determination to succeed which has made Edgecliff one of the most successful schools in the area.

Yours faithfully,

Adam Walker
Head of Transitions.
